The Attic

Being that the house is so old, there was no insulation in the attic.  One of our first projects was to install insulation to keep us from freezing.  But it was hard to get boards up that had been nailed down for so many years.  We had to be careful not to damage the amazing wood up there.

This is the original portion of the home with the floor boards up.  You can see the red they had painted the rooms red below prior to putting up the ceiling.

Lifting up the floor board we found this painted.  We think this is when the bead board ceilings went up.

The nails used in building the house were these square cut nails

You can see the old wallpaper that enclosed in the floor when the ceilings were added This is the old hatch that led out to the old slate roof.  Previous owner have removed the slate roof

Here you can see how the addition to the house was constructed. The round peg in the middle was another construction tool used
