The Wainwright Engineering Company was a small privately owned business in Connersville, IN.    They manufactured complete engines and also massed produced parts for other engines. Wainwright Engineering started by William Warren Wainwright in 1903.  At first Wainwright purchased iron castings from out sources but he found they did not meet his specifications.  As a result he built his own foundry immediately east of the machine shop on Sixteenth street.  A large blower provided the enormous blasts of air needed to melt the pigiron.  The first pistons were pored in 1909.

The Wainwrights designed and built the first engine for the Connersville based McFarlan automobile.  Credit for the design was given to Harry A. Wainwright, the oldest son of William Warren.  They also built special machinery including farm tractors. During WWI  the firm built special parts for the Army  like  the 155 mm Howitzer artillery guns .

Ben Wainwright worked in the office along with his sister Mabel.

On December 11, 1921 Wainwright Engineering was purchase by McQuay-Norris Manufacturing of St. Louis.   McQuay-Norris found them appealing because they have been successfully producing engine parts for 18 years and had many skilled employees.
